Birth Doula Services
Birth is a powerful and intimate space, and I feel grateful and humbled to be called to this work.
Subconscious beliefs play a major role in how pregnancy and birth are experienced. A comprehensive and empowering education in the support of your labor is just as important as the team you choose to have around you. If asked to attend your birth, the time we spend together in our prenatal appointments will not only be informative, but also a time to develop our relationship, so that on the day of your birth I am attuned to you and your unique needs, so that you may feel safe, seen and supported. Labor and birth can be prepared for, but ultimately it is a deeply internal process of surrender. As a doula I walk with you on that path to encourage, educate, and comfort you, as well as advocate for your needs.
We meet for three in-person prenatal sessions leading up to your 38th week of pregnancy, using our time to prepare you (and your partner if one is present) mentally, emotionally, and physically in order to create a birth plan based on your informed preferences. These meetings last 1-2 hours depending on questions and needs. We will cover the physiology of labor and birth, review the choices available to you based on where you are delivering, address anything unique to your pregnancy such as personal fears, questions, desires or concerns, and become familiar with comfort measures found through movement, positions, breath and belief work. In our last appointment we will discuss your postpartum care plans and go over how to set up support systems that will allow you to successfully rest, recover and bond with your baby.
Whether you intend to birth in your home, in a birth center, or in a hospital- unmedicated or medicated- I am there to support you in the ways that you and your family uniquely desire. I particularly love helping partners navigate their roles in the birth room as well. I’m not there to take the place of a supportive partner, but rather to help guide and integrate them into this special experience.
If you desire, birth photography is also included in this offering. I approach my birth photography with a high amount of sensitivity as it is such a vulnerable and extraordinary moment in your lives. I am quiet and discreet, so as to not be a distraction, but merely a witness and a thoughtful documentor. I have a refined ability to capture chosen moments, and also provide hands on support and emotional presence throughout.
Last but not least, my service includes two postpartum visits (or calls if you prefer) within the first few weeks after birth to offer guidance and support around newborn care, feeding, and your rest and recovery. These visits are useful for processing your birth experience and in helping you integrate into your new role; whether you are a new parent or are adding another child into the mix. These visits allow me to hold space for the myriad of emotions that can surface during this tender transition, and give me insight into ways that I can help you and your family navigate and ground into your support systems and resources during this time.
While our work together will be thorough and comprehensive, you may still find it valuable to invest in a birth preparation course, breastfeeding course, and or postpartum care course supplementally. Everyone's needs, wants, and capacities around “birth prep” varies, and I am happy to help you understand what might be right for you. I am well connected in the local birthwork community and can recommend additional resources depending on your needs.
